I believe this was in the early hours of February 1, 1993 (references in the overnight news program to Superbowl XXVII Dallas Cowboys meeting Buffalo Bills in Pacadena, CA).

Was getting MeTV Plus on DIRECTV channel 43 until this morning. Apparently, it has been replaced by “Story Television”, which shows reruns of history based programs that are interesting, but are of the type that I can already find on 5 or 6 other channels. I am disappointed.

Whenever I see stations signing off nowadays, I always hope it would take the place of paid programs. I don't see how anyone could sit through a 30 minute long commercial.

@@mamatemari6061 One evening in 1994 while on a business trip, I was at LaGuardia Airport in New York waiting for a flight to Miami, Florida when I saw Paul Kangas in the waiting area sitting on a seat with his leg propped up on his knee, holding a leather-bound notebook and making notations in the notebook with a pen. It was so surreal and I did not dare approach him out of respect for his privacy. I can only assume that he was in New York on business for the New York operations for the Nightly Business Report. Cassie Seifert was the New York NBR anchor at that time and those two made a GREAT team. Mr. Kangas eventually boarded a flight to Miami that left earlier than my Miami flight did. All the while I was gazing at him sitting there in that airport boarding area waiting for his flight, I could literally hear in my head this Nightly Business Report theme music! That was over 27 years ago and I have never forgotten that night at LaGuardia Airport! --- John

The footage in the sign-on seems to date back to 1978, because I saw the footage in a promo reel from that same year

Love the WXXA-TV station ID (uses the background music, Fox 1993-94 campaign "It Could Only Happen on Fox!" sung by Jay Gruska who also did the 1992-93 campaign "Everybody Knows It's on Fox!").
